Lighting the 1st Candle of the Advent Wreath

Advent Sunday

1st Candle - HOPE

Use this video at home alone or with others you live with and light the first of your advent candles and join in the prayer for HOPE
Blessing the Advent Wreath

Use this very short video in your home after you have made an Advent Wreath and pray for God's blessing upon it as you use it to mark the weeks of Advent this year in our isolation from each other. And if you can send a photo of your wreath to Reuben to add to our collection on the website and Facebook pages and help us keep connected to each other.

Making an Advent Wreath at home

Use this video at home alone or with others you live with to help inspire you into making an advent wreath in your home. Just collect some greenery, find a few candles and have a go. There is no need to buy expensive looking candles or decorations. You can also use bits of christmas tree decoarting materials to add to your display - but do be careful if you are using real candles with real flames. Some people like to use LED candles to save worrying about fire risks.
Please use these simple prayer resources to hep you in your preparation for Christmas. The weekly themes of ADVENT are HOPE, LOVE, JOY and PEACE and using some Advent Candles at home is a good way to mark the weeks of Advent in your domestic setting. Making an advent ring of candles is as simple as you want it to be. Just use 3 purple candles, a pink one and an white one - or even just 5 candles if you cannot get some coloured ones! If you download the Advent Candles leaflet you will find the prayer for lighting each candle at home - we shall be using it in church each Sunday too. It is a good way to gather your household together and recall the themes for the week amidst the hustle and bustle of Christmas around us nowadays. Have a happy and Holy Advent. Advent Candles

An Advent Retreat - Introduction
Welcome to this year’s Advent retreat, created to offer you the opportunity to take a step back from the pressing concerns of everyday life, to reflect prayerfully on the current state of your relationships, with God, with the people around you, and with the world in which you live. To help and guide your prayer this Advent, we are focussing on the Prologue of the Gospel of John. This retreat offers you an opportunity to take some time out from the busyness of your life and come to a renewed awareness of the presence of Christ in your life and in His closeness to you. You are invited to deepen your relationship with Him; to welcome Him into your life this Christmas in a new way, and not to be afraid to radiate the light of His love.
