Hello and welcome
to my MA degree website. I hope you will enjoy looking around
at the work I have been working on since Sept 2004. Come to the MA show
which is on 2-7 Sept at Art College, Margaregt Street, Birmingham B3
3HX. The website for the show can be found at www.ticklishsubjects.co.uk
Show Title: Mind Wandering
| Sub units Titles: | Moment of Exposure– silver lame curtain |
| GCDFF#GBA’ADCBA’G’’D’ED - bound carpet pieces | |
| Play it again – computer, midi synthesizer, pressure pads | |
| Who’s in the hot seat – Infrared detectors, DVDs, computer controller | |
| Climb inside and feel the view – spiral staircase & silver lame |
In this work the notion of audience control and participation are
explored through use of video, music and physical space. Emerging from
the silver curtains, suddenly thrust upon a catwalk like center piece,
the work suggests an exposure of the viewer to others in the space,
as they find themselves becoming a controlling center of attention walking
along the coloured units of changing textured carpet, and unknowingly
upsetting the experiences of others. This passage of the new viewer
is the trigger to changing the video and music pieces causing the navigation
of each visitor to affect the experience of current and subsequent visitors
– what you experience is a result of the visitors who have gone
before you. The video and music pieces affect the state of the viewers’
consciousness as they try and find the screen to matched their sound
track, or discover a new instrumental rendition of well known pieces
of music: frustration, amusement, annoyance and projection are evoked
as the pieces change because of the visitors’ location within
the pathway.
Thankyou to the following
people for their help and assistance in making the work come to fruition.
