Ignatian Spiritual Exercises

30 day retreat / in 10 day chunks / 19th Annotation - in daily life

30 day Retreat

The 30-Day Retreat is a form of the Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius. This retreat will help a person who wants to grow in union with God as a disciple of Jesus Christ and discern their call in life.  The retreat, in the form of meditation and contemplations, is rooted in traditional Christian practice and in the scriptures.  Four hours each day is the usual pattern, together with reflection periods to take note of what is happening.

Applicants are expected to have made at least one eight-day silent directed retreat, be currently in spiritual direction, engage in regular prayer, be comfortable using Scripture in their prayer, and be capable of maintaining the silence that is important for this retreat.

The retreat is made in the home of Reuben and with a large double room and full board, access to a large parkland area and the local parish churches. It is a retreat that is silent with a meeting with the director each day for an hour.

To register an interest please email Reuben with your expression of interest including the details listed below.

A typed autobiographical sketch telling us about the important persons and events in your life and your faith journey. This will help us to know you better, and understand your desire to make this retreat at this time. In your autobiographical sketch please address the following:

Who is God for you?

How have your knowledge of/relationship with God evolved over time?

By what names/images do you know or call-upon God?

By what names/images does God know or call upon you?

If you were able to see yourself as God sees you, whom does God see?

A retreatant should plan to arrive for the full 30 days and not bring mobile phones, laptops, tablets etc to contact the 'outside world'. Provision is made for extraordinary contact messages should that be vital. It is a time wholly allocated to God and the spiritual quest. All meals are provided and materials to use in prayer sessions each day will be given by the director.

If you feel called to enter into a Ignatian Retreat please contact me to discuss your requirements.

19th Annotation

The 19th Annotation is a method of taking the Spiritual Exercises in 'daily life'. The retreatant meets with the Director each week for an hour and sets aside a period of prayer in their own life setting each day during the week.

Theis way of working through teh exercises usually takea a year and a committment must be made to meet with the director each week.

Some people find this a very valuable way of working with the excersies when they have domestica nd work committments which do not make a longer term residential retreat possible.

If you are interested in taking the exercises in this way please contact Reuben and make an appointment to discuss this mode for you and your setting.
